ingredients

  • 2 turnips
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried chives
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon trader joes "cheesy seasoning" alternatively, buttermilk powder or skip.
  • oil for frying

Method

  • Step 1

Use a mandolin (or I used a kitchen aid attachment) to thinly slice your turnips. (you can peel, or leave the outside on. up to you. I left mine on.)

  • Step 2

Place in a large bowl, and drizzle with avocado oil.

  • Step 3

Season with salt, pepper, and all of your herbs/spices. Toss together well to evenly coat.

  • Step 4

Fill a large heavy bottomed pot about half way with oil. Turn on medium-high heat on stovetop. (I used grapeseed, and vegetable oil.) Test if your oil is ready for frying by dipping in a toothpick, or the handle of a wooden spoon. If it simmers/bubbles around the wood you're ready.

  • Step 5

Drop in chips carefully, stirring as each "handful" is introduced to assure they don't clump. (Drop them in using a large spoon or spatula)

  • Step 6

You can fry 1/2 at a time.

  • Step 7

Fry for about 5-7 minutes, until the chips begin to turn golden brown.

  • Step 8

Use a slotted spoon/spatula to remove chips from oil and transfer to a pan lined with a wire rack.

  • Step 9

Sprinkle with salt while still warm.

  • Step 10

Serve alongside your favorite dip, or just on their own as a great, low-carb satisfying crunchy snack.
