ingredients

  • 1 loaf challah or brioche bread
  • 1 stick butter, salted, softened
  • 5 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Method

  • Step 1

    Preheat oven to 350F

  • Step 2

    Trim the crust off the sides & ends of the challah. Slice into 4 or 5 thick slices. Trim the top & bottom of the crust, to form the pieces into rectangles

  • Step 3

    Mix the brown sugar, butter, honey, & vanilla until it forms a paste. Spread the butter mixture on every side of each piece of challah

  • Step 4

    Place each piece of coated challah on parchment lined baking sheet. Bake for 10 min. Remove from oven - the butter may have dripped on the sheet but that’s ok - carefully flip the bread over so the side that’s on parchment is now up. Bake for another 10 min.

  • Step 5

    Remove from heat & let sit for 10 min then move each piece to drying rack so it allows the bread to hard for about 15 min. One side may have a harder shell than the other. The longer it sits, the harder the shell will be.

  • Step 6

    Top with whipped topping & warm salted caramel. Enjoy!
