ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, deveined, shelled with tails on
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil, plus more for drizzling
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, finely chopped
  • 6 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons fish sauce
  • salt, as needed
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup sriracha
  • 2 teaspoons mirin
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons spring onions

Method

  • Step 1

    Heat oil in a large skillet on medium high heat. Sauté shrimp until they turn pink on both sides, 5-6 minutes. Set aside.

  • Step 2

    In the same pan, heat the sesame oil on medium heat. Sauté garlic, ginger and chili flakes. Let the garlic fry until golden, 2-3 minutes.

  • Step 3

    Add water, salt, pepper, sriracha, fish sauce, Mirin, brown sugar and soy sauce. Let it simmer until it becomes a syrup consistency.

  • Step 4

    Add sautéd shrimp and coat with the sauce. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Drizzle sesame oil and serve.
