Maple Walnut Cinnamon Rolls

(0)
"Who wants some maple walnut cinnamon rolls?! I used nutty browned butter in the dough to accentuate the flavor of the walnuts in the sweet maple filling...and they’re all topped off with a maple cream cheese icing. :)"

ingredients

Dough

  • 3/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

ingredients

Filling

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts

ingredients

Icing

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Method

  • Step 1

Make browned butter by melting 1/3 cup of butter in a sauce pan on medium high. Once melted, keep cooking and stir constantly as butter begins to foam up. The liquid should turn golden brown. When this is achieved remove from heat and set aside.

  • Step 2

Make the dough by warming the milk in the microwave for 40 seconds. Pour this into a large bowl and whisk in the yeast and sugar. Cover with a towel and set aside for 5 minutes.

  • Step 3

Whisk in the egg and browned butter. Then, stir in the flour and salt until a dough ball forms. Turn it out onto a floured surface and knead for 5 minutes.

  • Step 4

Place the dough in a large greased bowl covered with a towel. Set in a warm place to rise for 1 hour. Once risen, place on a floured surface and roll it into a 14x9 in. rectangle.

  • Step 5

In a small bowl, cream together the brown sugar, cinnamon, softened butter and maple syrup. Spread this evenly on the dough. Sprinkle on the chopped walnuts. Roll up the dough, starting with a shorter side, and pinch the seam closed.

  • Step 6

Slice the dough into 9 rounds and place them into a greased 9x9 baking pan. Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for 30 minutes.

  • Step 7

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and bake the cinnamon rolls for 20-25 minutes. Make the frosting by adding the softened cream cheese, butter, and maple syrup to a medium bowl. Mix together until smooth and then stir in the powdered sugar. Spread on top of your rolls and enjoy!
