  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup (2 sticks salted butter, melted or browned
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon espresso powder
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
  • Flaky salt, for topping

Method

  • Step 1

    Preheat the oven to 350°F and line an 8x8-inch pan with parchment paper.

  • Step 2

    In a large bowl, whisk together sugar and eggs until smooth.

  • Step 3

    Stir in the melted or browned butter, then mix in cocoa powder until combined.

    Add the flour and any optional ingredients (like vanilla, espresso powder, or chocolate chips). Stir just until no streaks remain.

  • Step 5

    Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle with flaky salt if using.

    Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the center is just set. Let cool completely before slicing.

    For extra fudgy brownies, slightly underbake and cool completely before cutting.
