- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 cup shredded cheese of choice
- Parmesan cheese (optional), for topping
ingredients
For the Marinara Sauce:
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can Red Gold® Petite Diced Tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon Red Gold® Tomato Paste
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- Pinch of granulated sugar
- Kosher salt, to taste
Method
Prepare the Ground Meat Base:
Step 1
In a large bowl, mix the ground chicken or turkey with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Set aside.
Make the Marinara Sauce:
Step 1
In a saucepan over medium-high heat, add Red Gold® Petite Diced Tomatoes, Red Gold® Tomato Paste, minced garlic, and a pinch of sugar.
Step 2
Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the tomatoes break down and the sauce thickens.
Step 3
Mash the tomatoes to your preferred consistency and let the sauce cool.
Shape and Fill the Calzone:
Step 1
Lay a sheet of parchment paper on a flat surface.
Step 2
Take half of the ground meat mixture and press it into a thin circle to form the base of the calzone.
Step 3
Spread about 1 tablespoon of marinara sauce onto one side of the meat, then add shredded cheese and any additional fillings (optional).
Step 4
Use the parchment paper to fold the meat over, sealing the edges to create a calzone shape. Pinch the edges together.
Cook the Calzones:
Step 1
Sprinkle shredded or grated Parmesan on top if using.
Step 2
Air fry at 400°F for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and fully cooked.
Serve and Enjoy:
