ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups 2% milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 active dry yeast packets
  • 4 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 8 ounces whipped strawberry cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup lightly packed light brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon finely ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup chopped pecans
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup 2% milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 package mardi gras sprinkles

Method

  • Step 1

    Microwave milk for 1 min 40 sec.

  • Step 2

    Add butter, sugar, salt, stirring to melt butter.

  • Step 3

    Add beaten egg.

  • Step 4

    Stir in yeast packets.

  • Step 5

    Pour all into mixer and slowly add in flour until dough is balled on bread hook.

  • Step 6

    Brush melted butter over dough and let proof for hour.

  • Step 7

    Roll dough into a long rectangle. Roughly 10" x 18"long.

  • Step 8

    Cut 1" diagonal lines on each side and spread fillings down the middle.

  • Step 9

    Braid over the center line until reaching end but leaving a few braids.

  • Step 10

    Curve ends together to form circle and braid loose dough over connection.

  • Step 11

    Baste formed circular cake with butter and let proof for 30 minutes.

  • Step 12

    Set oven to 375°F and bake for 18 min.

  • Step 13

    While baking, mix powdered sugar and 2% milk for a thick icing.

  • Step 14

    Cool for 30 min, mix glaze and drizzle over with your favorite Mardi Gras sprinkles.

  • Step 15

    Extra Tip: If you have a little plastic traditional baby to hide under the cake AFTER baked, please do for the surprise piece!
