Simply Organic Summer of Cinnamon!

You may think of cinnamon as a classic holiday spice, but we're here to prove you can and should use it all year long!  We've teamed up with our friends at Simply Organic to bring you a menu highlighting all things cinnamon and summer.  Many people do not know that Simply Organic actually carries two types of cinnamon, Vietnamese and Ceylon. Vietnamese cinnamon provides deep, rich flavor with a 4% oil content that delivers intense, yet sweet flavor. Ceylon Cinnamon, AKA as “True Cinnamon” is sourced from Sri Lanka and has a more delicate flavor than Vietnamese Cinnamon and is ideal for baked goods and dishes made with fruit.

First up on our menu are these refreshing Sweet and Spicy Strawberry Margaritas with Cinnamon and Ginger. Fresh strawberries are pureed with Simply Organic Ceylon Cinnamon, Simply Organic Ginger, honey and fresh lemon juice.  The puree is them combined with tequila in a pitcher making it super easy to serve guests as they arrive. Once poured over ice, the strawberry and tequila mixture is topped with ginger beer for a bubbly summer cocktail. Plus, you'll have plenty of extra strawberry puree on hand for anyone who'd rather enjoy a mocktail version; just mix it with a little lemonade or soda water. Click here for the full recipe.

For the main course we developed a delicious Roasted Tomato Sauce with Cinnamon and Oregano. Fresh summer tomatoes are roasted at high heat with Simply Organic Vietnamese Cinnamon (since it stands up well to long-cooked items), fresh garlic, Simply Organic Oregano, olive oil and butter. The resulting sauce is super flavorful and very well balanced thanks to the gentle heat from the cinnamon, acid of the tomatoes and richness from the combination of butter and olive oil. All you need to do to get it ready to serve is toss it with a little hot pasta and garnish it with fresh basil, crushed red pepper and some freshly shaved Parmesan cheese. Since every summer meal should end with a Sundae (in our humble opinion!) we're capping off the menu with Grilled Peach Sundaes with Vanilla Ice Cream and Blueberry Sauce. After dusting peaches with a bit of sugar and Simply Organic Vietnamese Cinnamon, they are grilled for a few minutes to bring out the sweetness before being topped with vanilla ice cream and simple Cinnamon Blueberry Sauce and a Cinnamon Infused Whipped Cream made with Simply Organic Ceylon Cinnamon. The perfect ending to a perfectly-spiced summer meal!  Click here for the full recipe.
