Spiced Maple Apple Crisp

(3)

Recipe Intro From mgracebakeshop

I’m starting Thanksgiving week with a spiced maple apple crisp. It’s easy to put together and your house will smell so warm and inviting. If you’re looking for a yummy dessert for your holiday table, this is definitely a crowd pleaser. Spices are infused in the topping and apples and pair beautifully with the maple syrup. This is my entry for #thefeedfeed #contest showcasing #vermontmaplesyrup.

ingredients

Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup regular oats
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, frozen
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts

ingredients

Filling

  • 6 tart apples, peeled and thinly sliced (I used Pink Lady but Rome, Granny Smith or Golden Delicious work well too)⠀
  • 1/3 cup Vermont maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger ⠀ pinch salt ⠀
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter, cut up in small pieces⠀

Method

  • Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. For the topping, sift flour, spices and salt together in a medium sized bowl. Add sugar and mix until combined. Grate the frozen butter over the flour mixture. Add oats and walnuts and stir until a crumbly mixture is formed and set aside. For the filling, mix everything in a large mixing bowl, and gently pour into a buttered 8 inch baking dish. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the top in an even layer. Bake for approximately 35 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with a light drizzle of syrup on the top and vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.⠀
