ingredients
- 1 pound cut into 1" cubes chicken breast
- 4 tablespoons divided cornstarch
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup San-J No Soy Tamari (gluten-free)
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons divided olive oil
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
- for serving Broccoli (optional)
Method
Step 1
Add the chicken to a bowl and toss with 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. Set aside.
Step 2
In a separate bowl, combine water, San-J No Soy Tamari, rice vinegar, sesame oil, brown sugar, and the remaining 2 tablespoons cornstarch. Set aside.
Step 3
In a frying pan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-low heat. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes. Cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the garlic is browned and fragrant.
Step 4
Add the prepared sauce mixture to the pan with the garlic and red pepper flakes. Cook on medium-low heat for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens. Once thickened, remove from heat and set aside.
Step 5
Rinse out the frying pan and add the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil. Pan-fry the coated chicken on medium heat until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 6
If using, add broccoli to the pan in the last 2-3 minutes to allow it to cook with the chicken.
Step 7
Once the chicken and broccoli are cooked, add the thickened sauce back into the pan. Warm everything together on low heat for 3-4 minutes, then serve immediately.
