  • 1/2 cup (115 grams) unsalted vegan butter
  • 1 1/4 cups (185 grams) all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon Chosen Foods 100% Pure Avocado Oil
  • 1/2 cup (100 grams) light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup (67 grams) granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup vegan semi-sweet chocolate chips, plus more for garnish (optional)

  • Flaky sea salt, for garnish

Method

  • Step 1

    Preheat the oven to 350°F.

  • Step 2

    In a medium saucepan, melt the vegan butter over medium heat. Continue cooking, swirling the pan or stirring constantly, until the butter passes the foamy phase and turns a deep amber color. This adds a rich, nutty flavor.

  • Step 3

    In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

  • Step 4

    In a separate large bowl, mix the cooled brown butter, Chosen Foods Avocado Oil, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Whisk for 1-2 minutes until the mixture becomes paste-like.

  • Step 5

    In a small bowl, combine the water and baking powder. Whisk to dissolve. Add to the sugar mixture along with the vanilla extract, mixing until well combined and the mixture turns into a smooth paste, about 2-3 minutes.

    Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, gently folding until just combined. Fold in the vegan chocolate chips.
