ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cacao powder
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 8 ounces dark chocolate

Method

  • Step 1

Prepare for Baking: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease 9×9 inch baking pan.

  • Step 2

Melt Chocolate and Butter: Fill the bottom of a double boiler with about an inch of water and bring to a simmer over low heat. Place the butter and chopped dark chocolate in the top of the double boiler. Stir occasionally until completely melted and smooth. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature.

  • Step 3

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk the sugar into the cooled chocolate mixture until well combined. Add the eggs, one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  • Step 4

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt.

  • Step 5

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients using a spatula. Once the dry ingredients are just incorporated, fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.

  • Step 6

Bake the Brownies: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for about 25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

  • Step 7

Cool and Serve: Let the brownies cool completely in the pan. Cut into squares using a sharp knife. For cleaner cuts, you can dip the knife in hot water and then wipe it dry between cuts.
