Brown Butter White Chocolate Matcha Brownies

(5)
"This recipe produces a moist and fudgy brownie bursting with the right balance of bitter green tea and sweet white chocolate - which pairs beautifully with the slightly nutty undertone from added brown butter."

ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 ounces high quality white chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoon culinary grade matcha powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Method

  • Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 8x8 baking pan with butter and line with parchment paper. Measure your chocolate chips into a small heat-safe bowl. Set aside.

  • Step 2

Heat the butter over high heat until it melts. Lower the heat to a low simmer and cook the butter until small brown bits start to appear and the butter appears to be a deep caramel color.

  • Step 3

Remove from the stove and pour over your white chocolate chips. Whisk until smooth and let cool to room temperature.

  • Step 4

In a stand mixer bowl, add in the eggs, brown and granulated sugars, and vanilla and beat until thick and creamy - about 5-10 minutes.

  • Step 5

While the eggs and sugars are beating, sift together the flour, matcha, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.

  • Step 6

Whisk in the melted chocolate mixture then fold in the dry ingredients until just combined.

  • Step 7

Spoon into your prepared baking pan and bake for 20-25 minutes. Let cool completely before cutting and serving.
