ingredients
- 1/2 cup (115 grams) unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup (100 grams) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (100 grams) brown sugar
- 2 large room temperature eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 teaspoons red liquid food coloring
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 3/4 cup (90 grams) all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup (30 grams) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Method
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper, allowing some paper to hang over the sides for easy removal. Set aside.
Step 2
In a small saucepan, heat the butter over medium-high heat until fully melted and it just starts to sizzle.
Step 3
Remove the saucepan from heat and add the granulated sugar and brown sugar to the hot butter until fully incorporated.
Step 4
Transfer the sugar-butter mixture to a large mixing bowl.
Step 5
Add the eggs, vanilla extract, red food coloring, and white vinegar. Whisk the ingredients together until well combined.
Step 6
Sift in the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking soda to the wet ingredients. Gently mix until just combined, taking care not to over-mix.
Step 7
Pour the red velvet brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it into an even layer. Bake in the center of the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean with a few moist crumbs.
Step 8
Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then use the parchment paper to lift them out and transfer them to a wire rack.
Step 9
Let the brownies cool until they are easy to handle before slicing into 16 squares. Enjoy them warm or at room temperature!
