ingredients
- 450 gram self raising soda bread flour
- 450 milliliter buttermilk
- 1/2 tsp ground sea salt
- 1/2 tsp sugar
Method
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 250 C.
Step 2
Sieve all ingredients into a mixing bowl.
Step 3
Make a well in the middle and add all the buttermilk.
Step 4
Mix together with your hands to make a soft dough.
Step 5
When it comes together, transfer it to a floured surface and continue to bring it together a bit more. Add some more flour if needed. It should be soft and not too sticky.
Step 6
Pat the dough into a round shape (around 4 cm deep) and cut a deep cross in the middle with a knife. Transfer onto a floured baking sheet and sprinkle some flour on top of the dough.
Step 7
Bake in the oven for 15 minutes at 250 degrees. Turn it down to 200 degrees and bake for another 25 minutes.
Step 8
Cool on a wire rack. The bottom of the bread should sound hollow when tapped. Serve with lots of butter.
