"spent yesterday watching football, decorating for christmas, and christmas baking. couldn’t be happier. first holiday recipe i will be sharing are these peppermint pretzel brownies. oh my gosh these are insane. they are so gooey and chocolaty and have such a nice peppermint flavor and pretzel crunch. sweet and salty is one of my fav combos."

These decadent brownies laced with sweet peppermint and salty pretzels are a fun and festive treat to celebrate the holidays — national Candy Cane Day that is.

ingredients

  • 1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup coconut sugar
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 2/3 cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup pretzels, chopped
  • 1/3 cup candy canes, crushed
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips, melted

Method

  • Step 1

    Preheat oven to 350ºF and grease a 9x9 inch cake pan.

  • Step 2

    In a large bowl, whisk together flour, coconut sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.⠀

  • Step 3

    Add the eggs, butter, melted dark chocolate, milk, vanilla, and peppermint extract. Stir to combine.

  • Step 4

    Fold in chopped pretzels and crushed candy canes. Transfer to greased pan. Bake at for 21-25 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few crumbs attached.

  • Step 5

    Allow to cool fully before slicing into squares.
