  • 3/4 cup whole black gram, (urad dal), soaked
  • 1/4 cup kidney beans, (rajma), soaked
  • 3 cups water
  • pinch salt

For the sauce

  • 1 tablespoon ghee
  • 1 cup onion, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 cup tomato puree

Add to the sauce

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Kashmiri chili powder, (sub with ¼ teaspoon red chili powder or cayenne pepper)
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried kasoori methi
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste

  • 1/4 cup light cream, (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, (optional)
