- 3/4 cup whole black gram, (urad dal), soaked
- 1/4 cup kidney beans, (rajma), soaked
- 3 cups water
- pinch salt

- 1 tablespoon ghee
- 1 cup onion, minced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 cup tomato puree

- 1 1/2 teaspoons Kashmiri chili powder, (sub with ¼ teaspoon red chili powder or cayenne pepper)
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon dried kasoori methi
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
