Recipe Card

  • 100 grams butter, room temperature (vegan version used)
  • 100 grams sugar
  • 150 grams all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablepoons matcha powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg (vegan liquid egg replacement)
  • 1 teaspoon (2 grams) vanilla
  • 100 grams butter, room temperature (vegan version used)
  • 100 grams sugar
  • 150 grams all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg (vegan liquid egg replacement)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Semi-sweet chocolate, chopped (around 100g)

Method

For the Matcha Dough

  • Step 1

    Whisk butter (vegan), sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and (vegan) egg, whisk well. Sift in flour, baking powder, matcha, and salt. Mix until no dry spots remain.

For the Chocolate Dough

  • Step 1

    Follow the same process as the Matcha Dough, adding cocoa powder and folding in chopped chocolate at the end.

Assembly and Baking

  • Step 1

    Use an ice cream scooper to fill half with matcha dough and half with chocolate dough.

  • Step 2

    Scoop onto lined baking trays, leaving space between each cookie.

  • Step 3

    Bake at 180C/355F for about 12 minutes (check a few minutes early due to oven variations).

  • Step 4

    Avoid overbaking for best results.
