ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 3 room temperature eggs
- 1 tablespoon (12 grams) vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon (2 grams) nutmeg
- 1 1/2 cups (1 1/2 sticks) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon (2 grams) baking powder
- 1 teaspoon (2 grams) baking soda
- 1 cup (100g) sour cream
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons (1 stick) ground cinnamon
- 4 tablespoons (1 stick) cut into pieces unsalted butter
Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350F. Grease a 9” square cake pan. Make the topping by mixing the walnuts, brown sugar, cinnamon and butter with your fingertips until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 2
Cream the butter using an electric or stand mixer. Add the sugar and beat till light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time and beat well. Add the vanilla extract and nutmeg. In a separate bowl sift the flour, baking soda and powder. Fold the ingredients into the butter mixture, adding the sour cream in three batches.
Step 3
Pour the batter into pan and sprinkle half the topping. Pour the remaining batter and then sprinkle the remaining topping. Bake for an hour until browned. Transfer to a wire rack to cool. Enjoy with a cup of coffee or tea. Bon appétit!
