  • 2 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 14 ounces phyllo pastry dough

Method

  • Step 1

    Prepare the syrup. The syrup has to be cold by the time of pouring. Bring to boil for 15 minutes the sugar, water and orange juice.

  • Step 2

    Preheat oven to 248 °F (120°C). Spread the phyllo sheets into the working surface and crinkle them one by one and place into a baking pan. Bake for at least 30-45 minutes or until they are completely dry out.

  • Step 3

    In the same time bring to boil some water with an orange inside. Boil for 30-35 minutes. Once the phyllo is dried and orange boiled, start preparing the rest of the pie.

  • Step 4

    Increase the temperature of the oven to 320°F (160°F) fan mode. In a food processor add the boiled orange and the condensed milk. Mix for 30 seconds and than add the eggs, orange zest, vanilla , vegetable oil, baking powder and baking soda. Mix well until you get a homogeneous texture and than transfer into a big bowl.

  • Step 5

    Crumble the dried phyllo and add them to bowl. mix with the help of a spatula. Sprinkle some oil into the baking pan and add the pie mixture. Bake it for 50 minutes.

  • Step 6

    Once the pie is baked add immediately the syrup and let it soak for at least one hour. This pie tastes divinely when enjoyed 2-3 days after. Serve it with a scoop of ice-cream.
