For the Chicken
- 750 grams chicken breast, cut into bite-sized cubes
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon white pepper
- 1 teaspoon MSG
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup cornstarch
- Oil, for frying
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
- Sliced green onions, for garnish

For the Honey Butter Sauce
- 5 garlic cloves, chopped
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for sautéing garlic)
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon chili flakes
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter (for sauce)
- 2 tablespoons honey, adjust sweetness to taste
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch slurry (mix 2 tablespoons cornstarch with 1/2 cup water)
Method
Prepare the Chicken
Step 1
In a bowl, combine the cubed chicken with soy sauce, salt, white pepper, and MSG. Mix well.
Step 2
Add the cornstarch and coat the chicken pieces thoroughly.
Step 3
Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the chicken in batches for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and let rest for 1-2 minutes, then double fry for an additional 2-3 minutes until crispy.
Make the Honey Butter Sauce
Step 1
In a deep pan, melt 2 tbsp of butter over medium heat and sauté the garlic until fragrant.
Step 2
Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, and chili flakes. Stir in the remaining butter and honey, cooking for 1-2 minutes on low heat.
Step 3
Pour in the cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
Combine and Serve
Step 1
Toss the fried chicken in the honey butter sauce until evenly coated.
Step 2
Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped spring onions. Serve hot, either on its own or with rice!
