ingredients

For the Honey Butter Sauce

  • 5 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for sautéing garlic)
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon chili flakes
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter (for sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons honey, adjust sweetness to taste
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch slurry (mix 2 tablespoons cornstarch with 1/2 cup water)

Method

Prepare the Chicken

  • Step 1

In a bowl, combine the cubed chicken with soy sauce, salt, white pepper, and MSG. Mix well.

  • Step 2

Add the cornstarch and coat the chicken pieces thoroughly.

  • Step 3

Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the chicken in batches for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and let rest for 1-2 minutes, then double fry for an additional 2-3 minutes until crispy.

In a deep pan, melt 2 tbsp of butter over medium heat and sauté the garlic until fragrant.

  • Step 2

Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, and chili flakes. Stir in the remaining butter and honey, cooking for 1-2 minutes on low heat.

  • Step 3

Pour in the cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.

Combine and Serve

  • Step 1

Toss the fried chicken in the honey butter sauce until evenly coated.

  • Step 2

Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped spring onions. Serve hot, either on its own or with rice!
