ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/4 cup (+ an additional 1/2 cup for rolling) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 large room temperature eggs
  • 2 to 3 cups vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/3 cup Nutella, for dipping

Method

  • Step 1

Add water, salt, sugar, and butter to a medium saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil.

  • Step 2

Once boiling, turn off the heat and immediately mix in the flour with a wooden spoon. Stir constantly for 3-5 minutes. The dough is ready when it doesn’t stick to the pan.

  • Step 3

Remove from the heat and vigorously mix in the eggs one at a time. When the dough looks smooth like cake batter, it’s ready to fry.

  • Step 4

Fill a large pot with oil on medium high heat. Make sure it’s about 2 inches deep. Let the oil come to 365°F-390°F.

  • Step 5

With a greased cookie scoop or spoon, carefully drop spoonfuls of dough into the oil. Let them fry for 2-3 minutes. The dough balls will flip over on their own. Continue frying until golden brown.

  • Step 6

Remove the buñuelos from the pot of oil using a slotted spoon. Place them on a plate lined with paper towels to soak up any excess oil.

  • Step 7

Roll the buñuelos in sugar. Fill a small bowl with Nutella for dipping and serve warm.
